Let’s Sew Along the Hyacinth Travel Case Supply List
Hyacinth Travel Case Supply List
You can find the Hyacinth Travel Case Supply list for the sew along inside the pattern. But I wanted to provide you with some links to make gathering supplies easier. Special supplies you’ll need beyond just fabric are:
Getting Started
If you haven’t already, make sure to pick up the Hyacinth Travel Case supplies for the sew along, specifically the sew-in magnet, vinyl and zippers! If all of your supplies aren’t in, don’t worry! You can still start cutting your pieces and sewing the cover while you wait for them.
Substitutions for Vinyl
One question I’ve had is if vinyl is a required supply to sew along the Hyacinth Travel Case. It definitely isn’t! You can substitute mesh (I like to repurpose a laundry bag, or it can be found in with the utility fabric), or a piece of fabric (double the height of the vinyl and fold in half), if you’re not ready to tackle vinyl.
Alternate option for Foam
Another alternate is for the foam, feel free to use fusible fleece, batting, or my favorite Fusible Thermolam, in place of foam. I like the puffy look the foam gives the squares, but with the vinyl, the case should stand up just fine without it.
If you’re using something other than vinyl, your case may be floppy if you don’t use foam. I recommend substituting either the foam or the vinyl, but not both. You can sew along with a variety of supplies for your Hyacinth Travel Case.
Make your cover
The pattern includes directions for a simple cover. There are also dimensions for the cover so you can make it however you choose. Just have fun, it’s your case!
Zipper Size
For this sew along the supplies include zippers for the Hyacinth Travel Case. This pattern is forgiving when it comes to zippers, as long as your zipper is the correct length, any type will work! I have used a variety of zippers on this project.
I also stopped by my local, big fabric store and wanted to share the zippers and binding tape I found. If you’re not sure about making your own binding, you can purchase pre-made bias tape as well!
If you haven’t signed up to sew along just yet, it’s not too late! This project can be completed in just a day or two, so we’d love to have you sew along with us, no matter when you’re getting started.
