Flora Supply Case Sew Along Week 1
Welcome to week 1 of the Flora Supply Case Sew Along! Make sure you’re signed up to receive all the sew along emails. I’ve shared a few question answers just for subscribers. Seeing this post after the email went out, it’s not too late, you’ll still receive the previous emails!
This week we will introduce ourselves, gather supplies, and sew the covers for our Flora Supply Cases. The pattern includes directions for a simple patchwork cover. There are also dimensions for the cover so you can make it however you choose. Here are the two covers I’m using for my cases.
My Flora Supply Case Covers
My Mom sewed me this cute patchwork panel to make a medium Flora Supply Case. Instead of sew in foam, I’m using two layers of batting on this case! The batting won’t be quite as stiff as the foam, but once the lining is in you will hardly know the difference!
The second case is also a medium (can you tell that’s my favorite size?) and I’ve already sew the patchwork and quilted it.
One major note about sewing the cover, if you’re quilting on foam, your cover may shrink! My simple patchwork cover is about ¼” shorter than my other cover. This does not affect the case and I’ve made many this way. But if your patchwork allows, you can always make your cover a little larger and trim after quilting.
A Note About Zippers
I also stopped by my local, big fabric store and wanted to share the zippers and bias tape I found. If you’re not sure about ordering zippers, either the coil separating jacket zipper or the sport zipper shown above will work just as well. The sport zipper has bigger teeth so you won’t be able to sew over the teeth, but it will still work! Also, if you’re not sure about making your own bias tape, you can purchase pre-made bias tape as well!
