Riley Blake Ahoy! Mermaids :: The Chloe Messenger Bag
Have you seen Ahoy! Mermaids by Melissa Mortenson for Riley Blake? A while back a friend sent me a photo of it because it was just too cute to miss, and I agreed! So, of course, when I got a bundle of it, I made up some cute messenger bags for her girls and mine (pattern coming soon!).
I have always had my kids sew with me (maybe because I’m always sewing and they’re always home!), so my girls had a great time choosing which fabric was for which girl and what to pair with each flap and lining.
To keep things a bit more neutral in color, I paired the bright prints with a rainbow metallic cork and cotton webbing for the strap, I thought this gave a more sophisticated look while still being fun and girly!
Even though my girls are getting a little older, they still love all things fun and mermaid, so I fussy cut some of their favorite mermaids and raw edge appliqued them to flap of the little cork bag bodies I made.
Both of my girls came downstairs this morning carrying their new bags, so I think I’ll call that a success!
For the inside, I chose a simple style. Even though we all love all the pockets, my girls don’t need them for the things they carry around, so I just lined these bags open to use for everyday items!
I’m finishing up the pattern for these cute bags, in case you want to make one too! They’re quick and easy to sew, and my girls have already said it’s their favorite bag–but maybe that’s because of the fabric, not the style!
I do have a few modifications I’ll be making to these cute bags before I release the pattern, but you can expect to see it soon! If you want to be notified when it’s released, sign up for my newsletter in the sidebar so you don’t miss a thing! Happy Sewing!
