Free Washi Tape Embroidery Pattern & Giveaway #sewspreadsomelove

|

Whew, I didn’t imagine it would be a month before I got back to the blog! I shared this on Instagram a while back, and meant to share it here, but time got away from me. While the world is on Stay Home to help slow the spread of Covid-19 I’m sharing my Washi Tape Pincushion Pattern with you for free! Hand embroidery is one of my favorite slow sewing pastimes, and I love that you don’t need many supplies to get started!

I’ve put together a few kits for local friends who would like to give embroidery a try. Since I have a large collection of Finca Perle Cotton No. 8 from years ago when I shared the Embroidery 101 Quilt and the Garden Steps Quilt, I’ve made cards of thread (I used a hole punch to make the notches in a piece of cardstock!). You can also click on either of those pages for a library of stitches that I made photograph tutorials for, so long ago that video wasn’t an easy option!

In my kits I also included embroidery scissors, a FriXion heat erasable pen, handmade needle minder, and embroidery needles in a cute little matchbook. It’s pretty simple to get started, and in my pattern there are diagrams for all the stitches as well. I know a lot of craft shops are doing pickup orders right now, so you may be able to find one near you, but if not, one of my favorite online shops is Snuggly Monkey, where Claudia stocks the cutest things and also has such a giving heart (she is offering a coupon right now – find the details on her website).

If you have any embroidery questions, please leave them here! I’m stitching up a new version of this pincushion for myself, as I seem to have given away all the others I made!

Oh, and I meant to share also that I’ve put my shop on sale for 25% off for the duration of the Stay Home with the coupon code STAYHOME. I am still working on my kids project, we were very enthusiastic about our projects initially, but quickly got busy playing and need to finish those up!

**Giveaway** Today I’d also love to give one of you a kit to go with the Washi Tape Pincushion Pattern as well! It will include similar items to those shown (this exact kit is gifted already!). To enter, just leave a comment on this post telling me how things have been going for you! This giveaway is open internationally through 11:59am EST, April 24, 2020. By entering you confirm that you are 18 years of age. Void where prohibited.

  1. What a lovely little embroidery project!! I count my blessings every day that I have a roof over my head and food enough. My husband has been laid off from his job, but we are better off than so many others. This is a season of difficulty for so many but it will pass. I hand this over to Jesus through prayer and do the small part I can do. I’m keeping busy with all things I can and am enjoying cooking at home quite a bit! I have a breadmaker and the smell of home-baked bread is a wonderful thing!!! Be especially blessed and stay safe through this trial!

  2. So far things are good. I am kind of used to be introverted, but I am also ready for the new normal. I love that people have been coming together in awareness of what has been going on with the Earth. I also hope people find out that they can live without a lot of the things we thought we needed….except embroidery, of course, lol. Thanks for the chance

  3. What a lovely idea, I think you’re so sweet to be making up kits for friends. I’ve been keeping busy by sewing things for my kids and grandkids…I’ve realized I would need several more quarantines just to use up all my fabric 😂 Im Definitely enjoying the slow sewing, I’m working on a hexie quilt so that keeps me busy too.
I hope you and your family are all well. Thank you for sharing so many clever and fun ideas.🤗

  4. what a great project, and sooooo cute too. It’s actually a bit annoying to be locked down – I hate having to ask someone else to get my stuff for me -but other than that, it’s been pretty easy to stay home as that’s what I do anyway these days – lots of projects and a senior dog who isn’t much into excitement any more.

  5. It’s been some time since I’ve embroidered something and this is the sweetest project to have at this time! I’ve been keeping busy with working at home, walking our dogs, reading, cooking and even baking! Since I’m mostly a home-body, this has not been too difficult for me.

  6. Such a lovely pincushion! Thank you for chance to win kit. I am doing okay. It’s hard not being with family but I am used to staying home a lot.

  7. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity and for checking in on your readers:) We are doing well. My husband is working extra hours as an essential employee and I’m home with my three children, homeschooling and potty training and still trying to fit in time for crafting and sewing:) Of course we miss our friends and family, church and school. Thank you again for sharing your beautiful work and photos. It is always a pleasure to read your blog.

  8. I have been thankful to still be working. Trying to juggle homeschooling 3 kids and a 3 year old! Very cute pattern! Thanks

  9. I love embroidery and this pin cushion is adorable!
In January I had major surgery and hadn’t gotten out much before the quarantine so it feels like I’ve been house bound forever and our governor announced today that it’s extended until May 8.
I have been sewing masks, doing some quilting, knitting, crocheting, working on jigsaw puzzles, finishing some embroidery projects, and cooking way too often. My husband and I have been catching up on missed shows on network television, Netflix, and Amazon.

  10. My work place has us working every other week to keep from losing entire offices from exposure. I thought I could use the time cleaning, spinning wool, and hand stitching. Lately though, I have been creating masks for essential workers and family members in direct contact with the public. While cutting and sewing, my Bluprint embroidery, quilting, and spinning classes have been streaming on the TV in the background. Multi-tasking makes for a cheerier atmosphere!

  11. Thank you for this generous opportunity! What a darling design and amazing kit!

Thinks are going well for me, thankfully. I’m still working as our business is an essential one, so I haven’t had much time to ruminate on things. My creative mojo has been poor, but if I finally got into things today and have b en stitching a bit too. Always feels great to have needle, thread and fabric in hand!

Hope you all are safe and well!

  12. What a cute little pincushion! What a great way to practice embroidery stitches! Thank you for this great giveaway! I have been doing well. I have been keeping busy with sewing and knitting. Our sons live a long distance away so we have remained in contact with them through Skype and texting as we usually do. I feel blessed to by safe and well by making use of all the guidelines. I pray for those who have been, are, and will become ill with this virus. I pray for all those who have been affected by not being able to work or continue their business. We will get through this, we will learn from this, and we will be better for this. Sometimes I think God gave us this virus so we will give pause and think about our world, our country, and our people. Just saying…

  13. Lovely project. I’ve done a lot more cooking, cleaning and some sewing. Thankfully my hubby is still working, so that hasn’t changed. My adult daughter is home from Taiwan, which I am most grateful for..

  14. So cute. I hope to make up a kit for granddaughters who are now at home since schools are closed. I hope they will like the kit. I plan to make one for me since it is so cute.
Thanks so much for the pattern and information.

    1. I didn’t tell what I was doing during this time. We are staying away from people. We walk in neighborhood and go to our cabin which is away from others. I do a lot of sewing and bird watching. Stay safe.

  15. I’m retired so being at home is no problem but not going to church or seeing friends, shutins, nursing home visits, Hospice, chemo patients etc. That has been hard for me. I am missing human touch a lot.

  16. I just read Christi’s comment and feel very much the same. Missing Church, friends and the emotional freedom to carry on a normal life. Don’t know when I’ll feel comfortable not wearing a mask in public. Thankful for the long list of UFOs I’ve finally been moving to the Done side of the room.

  17. I have wanted to make this since I first saw it. I think I may need to convert it to a wrist cushion because it would make such a cute travel “accessory”. 😊This my favorite time of year so being able to enjoy more of the cool sunny days has been an unexpected surprise. My husband has been under the weather and we don’t really know what’s going on. Praying for his recovery and for all affected by the current situation. Keep creating.

  18. What a cute pincushion! I love hand embroidery too. With my sewing business on hold, I’ve actually been making things for me! My college girls and husband are home so all is well at our house.

  19. This is such a sweet and thoughtful idea! My boyfriend’s wonderful mom sent me this blog as I have been talking with her about starting my new hobby of hand embroidery and she has been introducing me to so many great resources! She has helped me learn the basics and given me a great book and lots of thread to get started! I have always wanted to try it, but I am in in my second year of grad school and I work multiple jobs and I have never had the time until now with this pandemic, so I thought I would give it a shot now. I absolutely love it so far and I am excited to have a new hobby to keep me busy while I am home. I am excited to continue learning and hopefully improve my skills with the help of my boyfriend’s talented mom and blogs like this! Thank you!

  20. Hi! So far we are healthy. ☺ My husband and myself are still out working. I wish I could just stay home. One of our daughters lives with us. She is an RN at the local hospital taking care of covid patients 3 nights a week. When she became an RN a year ago, she never thought she’d be battling something like this. So, we are a bit stressed around here.
    Love your embroidery.❤

  21. Lovely pincushion! I am trying to be more patient and enjoy just the simple things that I have been blessed with!
It is so hard standing out in the yard to get a glimpse of my adorable grandchildren at the front door!
Thank goodness I have my sewing room (respite) to go to when I am overwhelmed with everything else.

Thanks for sharing your pincushion. Take care, Annette from Spanish Fork, UT

  22. Love the pincushion. Thanks for sharing the pattern with us. Since we are retired, our daily lives have not been affected too much. We are “home bodies” anyways. Have lots of projects to work on inside and out to keep us busy. Bur, will be happy when life opens up again.

  23. So far so good here! This is such a cute pincushion – since it’s small, I might be able to do this!! Woohoo!!

  24. I really love the pincushion. I am home by myself, but I don’t mind it, except I miss my grandchildren very much. No hugs and kisses! Hugs through the phone are just not the same!

  25. So sweet & I discovered my small Washi tape collection the other day amongst all this chaos in the world & wondered what I could do, but like this idea better & extra pincushion won’t go astray. Thank you. Stay safe & take care.

  26. I love the entire project! Thank you for sharing the pattern with us. We are doing fine on a small Island in the Puget Sound. We are being super careful about Covid exposure. My sewing machine is such a blessing. Many many masks have been made and shared. Sewing has been my “go to “ when life gets too scary. I would love to learn more hand sewing projects and share with the Grandchildren when we are able to see them again.

  27. Currently I am still working Monday-Saturday and making attempts at the teach-at-home technique. Life is much more hectic to say the least. Humans are so resilient though. Few projects are completed but I am enjoying the journey of slow stitching during any travel time I must take. Your kit idea is fabulous. I adore hand-mades! The card stock with floss is so cute!

  28. What a lovely idea. I find hand sewing one thing that is relaxing at this stressful time. Because it is so quiet I am able to hear more bird song.. There is a thrush that serenades us every morning starting about 4 o’clock. Just lovely

  29. I love pincushions! Thank you for this! We recently moved to a larger piece of property. The reason was so that our youngest daughter and her family could be on the same property with us. So glad they are with us now that we are in isolation The grandkids and I have room to garden and birdwatch and play outside.
    Sandi
