Pattern Release: the Clara cork tote
I’m excited to release my first patter for the year 2019. It has been a busy year and I’ve felt overwhelmed and uninspired to sew anything new. So, when a friend posted a photo of a bag she was looking for a pattern for, I made her the bag and then made a pattern for it too! I loved sewing with cork fabric for the first time and I hope you will too!
I had never sewn with cork before, but I’ve been eyeing it for a while. The natural fabric, the sturdiness of it, and the variety of prints and textures all caught my eye! I’ll link all the cork options I used in the bottom of this post, but this Textured White Snake Cork is just amazing. This bag doesn’t have a pocket on the front because the fabric is just too pretty to cover up!
I loved using a feature fabric for the natural cork totes, it really brought attention to the fabric while also showcasing the natural cork at the same time.
Finally, I made a larger size tote with a coordinating pocket (and I’ll write more on the hand embroidery next week!). Since cork generally comes in three sizes, the smaller tote is sized to perfectly use a medium piece of cork (18×27) and the large tote is for a large piece (18×54)! Here are the supplies I used!
- Natural Metallic Rainbow Cork from Cork & Cloth
- Textured White Snake Cork from Fabric Funhouse
- Natural Gold Cork from Cork & Cloth
- Pearly Cream Cork from Cork & Cloth
- Rivets and Setting Tools from Amazon
I’m also offering a special sale on the Clara cork tote pattern through the weekend (sale ends 9/16/19). I always appreciate your support and would love to see what you make! If you share it on social media, please use the tags #cloverandvioletpatterns and #theclaracorktote
Happy Sewing! Jennie xo
