Hexie Pincushion :: A Stitch in Time Book Tour

| |

I had so much fun sewing a project for Sharon of Lilabelle Lane’s first book, Quilting on the Go…EPP, that I jumped at the chance to make a project to share from her second book, A Stitch in Time. As I paged through her book the darling Pretty Little Flower Tape Measure Covers stuck out to me the most. I especially loved the little embroidery detail Sharon added to the hexagon flower, it just made it really pop for me!

But, I don’t really use those retractable measuring tapes because my children have broken a few in their love of seeing it retract! So, instead I double sized everything and made a pretty pincushion, which I will surely use all the time (and one can never have too many pincushions, right?!).

I had bought some Liberty of London charm squares from a shop that was going out of business, so these little 1/2″ hexies were the perfect use for two of them. I rarely fussy cut anything (I hate to waste the fabric between!), but since I only had one small piece of this fabric, I decided to just go for it and I’m so glad I did (on a side note, if anyone knows which Liberty print this is, do let me know!).

I especially loved the lace detail on the tape measures, so I was glad to have a piece of lace for my gusset as well. My older daughter already claimed this one, so I will be making at least one more for the younger one. I didn’t realize the tiny hexagons would stitch together so quickly, so that made it a very quick make!

Thanks for stopping by and you can head over to Instagram to check out some of the other projects sewers have made from Sharon’s book! Even if you’re not on Instagram, you can see some of the projects through this link!

And, while you’re here, if you need somewhere to store all those EPP supplies, check out my pattern for the Flora supply case, which is perfect for taking your sewing on the go! Have a happy weekend!
