Getting Organized with Totally Tiffany

Disclosure: The Totally Tiffany products were provided to me free in exchange for a review.  All opinions are my own.

Woah, I did not see that blogging break coming, hard to believe my last post was in February (and it’s almost May!). I’d like to share some awesome reason for disappearing, but really I’ve just been life-with-kids busy. At our last house, my sewing things were kept in a tiny office, so I did most of my sewing at the dining room table. Now, I have a dedicated sewing room (you can see all the photos here!) it seems I don’t spend as much time in there as I’d like. But I’m working on it, little by little. One great change was rearranging a little bit.

This second shelf had previously held lots of little buckets and mugs filled with markers, threads, and such. But I found the took up so much space (being wider at the top) and then sometimes tipped over when I was getting into them. Enter Totally Tiffany. I hadn’t heard of this company, but when they reached out to me for a review I checked it out and was impressed! I was sent the Stadium Arranger (left) and the Tool Tower (right). I debated for a while and decided the bookshelf was the place to put them, here’s a look at it now:

Right out of the box I was really impressed with the quality of the organizers. Since they are so affordable, I wasn’t expecting such nice, wood products. They also happen to be exactly the length of my shelves (9″), so it didn’t take me long to decide where to put them.

I filled the Stadium Arranger with lots of cute notions, and then put my thread in the bottom. This corner of the shelf is close to my sewing machine, so having my thread close at hand has been amazing. I don’t even have to get up to grab a new color, so switching for top stitching is easier than ever. I can also see now exactly which colors I have at hand.

The Tool Tower turned out to be the perfect place to store my bias tapes, scissors, and other tools. The small boxes are deep enough to hold lots of smaller tools, but still keep them in easy reach. I’m really enjoying knowing where these tools are, and not having to search all over for them, or have them far away in drawers.

Hopefully a little more organization will make sewing more efficient! My favorite organization tip is to put things back when you’re done with them, even if you’re in the middle of a project. I cannot tell you how much doing this most of the time has saved me time cleaning later. When I’m sewing in a rush and just pile things around, I always have a harder time getting back to sewing when the mess piles up (which it does too often).

What’s your favorite organization tip?

  1. You stole my favorite tip! Isn’t it so much easier it is to get things done when you are in a tidy environment My next tip is probably only applicable if you have a dedicated sewing space – put embroidery scissors everywhere! I have a pair in a coffee cup in between my sewing and embroidery machines, a pair in the little pocket on my ironing board cover, and a pair in a drawer under my serger. I just use them so often, and having one pair in one place just doesn’t work for me. I also have a pair hanging above the dryer in my laundry room, a pair in the drawer of the side table next to “my” seat on the couch, a pair in the bathroom, and a pair on my bedside table. You just never know when you’ll need to snip a stray string!! 😀
