On the Go Bags :: Book Tour
Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for On the Go Bags—15 Handmade Purses, Totes & Organizers by Lindsay Conner and Janelle MacKay (Stash Books). I was so excited when Lindsay and Janelle asked me to contribute a project to this book, I love bags with a purpose, and this is an amazing collection of them. The book is available this month at CTPub.com and January 7th on Amazon! Add it to your holiday wishlist now, and comment below for your chance to win a copy!
Here’s a small sampling of the projects in the book:
The Padded Bag Insert by Samanthy Hussey is something I’d readily make and use. I’m always hesitant to make or invest in a full camera bag, because I don’t want to commit to one fabric, size, or style. With this insert, any bag is turned into the perfect camera bag, and it can easily be swapped from one bag to the next.
I use a variety of different bags and organizers in my minivan, but this Mom’s Minivan Organizer by Sara Curtis is a fabulous alternative, it will hold and organize everything, instead of having it all floating around and hard to find!
I love that Lindsay Conner’s Travel Toiletry Organizer has a couple expandable pockets without being too over-sized. It has just enough space to hang the important things, without being too flat to fit it all. Perfect for traveling with the essentials plus a bit extra.
And this is my project from the book: the Snap-and-Go Sewing or Art Case. I had been wanting a sewing case with interchangeable pockets because I am always changing my mind about which project I’ll bring to work on while I’m out (3 kids = lots of waiting!), so I designed this case with pockets that snap out so I can keep all the projects ready, without unpacking my bag (or having too many). Here’s a photo of the inside too:
I hope you’re as excited about this book as I am, here’s the rest of the blog tour schedule:

LOVE the SUV organizer ! That is a pretty awesome helper there
I love so many of the bags you spotlighted!! I would make the camera insert for my daughter, and the van organizer for me!!
The interchangeable camera bag is BRILLIANT. Being a photographer, that will probably be my first make. And then the art case! Thanks for the opportunity 🙂
I would love to make the suv organizer too! I like to carry extra diapers and clothes in the car so I don’t have to overload my diaper bag! 🙂
I love tote bags- one for the library, one for the park, one for the pool… I also really love the travel organizer- it would make a great gift too!
I like that art case. It looks really useful. For an everyday bag I like crossbody bags.
Love the minivan organizer!
I love bags & you can never have too many! I like a large bag that I can throw things in as I go out the door and throw an organizing bag or pouch in for my projects to work on while I’m waiting on one of three kids
A crossbody bag is my go to – gotta keep the hands free for corralling kids and carrying all the other stuff! I usually have a tote or two on hand for Girl Scout projects, church materials or room mom crafts. There are so many great bags here!
These projects look awesome! I always love a good tote style purse that can also hold my 8″ tablet, and Ive started making organizers for my sewing supplies. I want to sew ALL the things!
I guess I use a wallet or change purse most. I am always trying to fish out my MAC card or store cards. Thank you
The crossbody bag catches my eye. It would be very handy for shopping & out for lunch with sis.
I have a few totes, but that snap and go bag is absolutely amazing!!!
I like tote bags cause they fit all my junk and my camera
The padded insert so I can finally have a camera bag that fits my style! Oh, and the art bag for on the go projects. I create during lunch at my day to day job. AND the SUV insert for packing all of our art show or acting gig stuff. So, ALL of the bags would be useful.
I love having small project bags to carry with me on a whim. I usually have several ready to go with handwork projects.
Love the car organizer and on-the-go organizer! With a toddler in tow, I need all of these! 🙂
Beautiful bags! Love the Snap and Go Sewing Case for my current projects. Will keep me organized and an easy bag to carry.

I love the camera bag insert! I am not a fan of carrying around the bulky bag I have so this would be a huge help!
I love the snap and go sewing case and the mom’s minivan organizer would be perfect for my car full of my girls’ junk!
My most used bag is a crossover style messenger. I love so many in this book, but my fave is the art case, just lovely!
The art case is lovely – perfect for small projects that you take with you – I can see myself using it while waiting on the hubster….:)
I love the SUV organizer and over-the-shoulder back pack. I always have at least one tote bag with me, and I’d love to have a book full of inspiration!
My style is a Snap and Go sewing/Art case!! Luuuuv it!????? thank you for this awesome giveaway! Fingers crossed!!
looks like a great book!
And that snap ‘n go art case looks fun!
How exciting!!! It looks like an amazing book! I’d love to make your snap and go sewing case!!! It looks like THE perfect travel sewing bag!
I love the toiletry travel kit.
Thank you.
So cute. Love the tote bags and the car organizer. Fun stuff to create.
I love all bags but I tend to favour cross body styles. Perfect for shopping when you need free hands!

That art case looks fabulous! Looks like it could carry lots of different projects. Thanks for the chance to win!
That art case looks amazing! Looks like it could carry lots of projects. Thanks for the chance to win!
I would like to make the snap and go sewing/art case!! Actually I would make two! One sewing case for myself, and one art case for my daughter!!
I love all bags, but the SUV organiser looks very useful.
I love the bigger over the shoulder bags to hold everything my kids and i need to be out and about.
Organizer totes are my thing right now. Gotta get organized and stay portable.
I use a weekender bag every day for work! 😀
I love the on the go case! But they’re all so awesome!
Oh the bags are so beautiful but if I had to pick it would be the on the go case!
the on the go sewing and art bag. love it so much and would totally use it.
I really like the one on the cover of the book–cross-body bags are my favorite.
I’m so excited about this book coming out! I want to make your art case cause I’m the same way always changing things out, but my favorite bag is an over the shoulder strap medium sized bag with snap closure and a zipper pocket for keys and cash.
In daily life, I strive to only carry one reasonable sized bag. But with three kids, it can be a challenge. My favorite bag is anything that can carry EPP projects!
Wow! All the bags you spotlighted look awesome! I can’t wait to make the snap n go. 🙂
I love the cover bag! I like the idea of being handsfree, but still able to carry things I need. Your art case looks perfect to make for my daughter.
The camera bag insert looks great! And your pattern too….and the car tidy…ok, they ALL look fab and useful!!
I could really use both the minivan organizer and your sewing suitcase. All of the bags I’ve seen so far are great! Thanks for the review and giveaway.
My preferred is tote bag, definitely!
I love me a tote! But I love the organizer bags, project bags, too! Thanks for the giveaway!
Love the organizer that you created for the book. I will definitely make that project. (And hopefully all of the others.)
That’s a difficult question – I usually end up switching between different tote bags even though I prefer the look of a more structured bag.
I love a roomie tote. My noodle head Super tote has been lots of use and I love to make them for gifts as well
Dear Jennie,
Thankful you so much for this giveaway! Most of the time I am using tote bags. I would love to sew other kind of bags.
Best wishes,
Sara
I love Ztablet Bags because I carry my tablet on a regular basis.
I love bags with lots of pockets! That art/sewing organizer looks amazing! I think the trunk organizer will probably be first on my list tho…
I will love to sew the miniban / SUV organizer. I like to carry medium size cross body bags with zipper or flap closure.
My most useful bag for my work is my lap-top bag. I just love it.
Thanks for the chance.
I definitely need the snap n go case ~ it would be perfect to carry my current hand sewing projects that I like to bring to quilt guild meetings and sew days at my BFF’s. I always have 2 or 3 projects I’m working on but don’t want to bring them all.
I love the Snap and Go case and the car organizer! Definitely on my to do list!!
The most useful bag I’ve made to date is Noodlehead’s Envelope Clutch. It is big enough to hold my phone & all my cards/cash when I need something small to grab for quick errands (rather than lugging around my big Super Tote – also super handy). I’d LOVE to make one of the art cases you designed – that is such a clever idea!!
All the bags posted look just amazing. A little birdie told me that I am getting a much-longed-for camera with lenses for Christmas, so the bag shown with the padded inserts would be perfect! Mom’s Minivan carryall would also be so useful (even though it would have to be Grandma’s Caryall in my case!)
I always say you can never have too many tote bags, but for day to day, a good handbag is essential, especially one with two outer pockets, one for my sunglasses and one for my readers!
I like cross body bags with lots of pockets-that is my dream bag! Love all of the bags that you showcased, can’t wait to make them! Thanks for the great giveaway! vickise at gmail dot com
I really like the car organizer and the backpack bag. Thanks for the great giveaway.
I love them all but I’d have to start with the art tote. I think it’d be very handy for those spare moments I can get a craft fix ?.
I really like the backpack on the cover!
I love them all too, but the car or trunk organizer one would be awesome! 🙂 Thanks for the chance
Love the minivan organizer too! But KNOW my Daughter would like the camera bag one. I love shoulder bags?totes! Soooo much easier to keep track of other things & Grankiddo’s too! lol
I use a simple tote in the Army ACU pattern; it has wonderful ribbon ruffles and bows, gives it a girly look. I can carry the bag in uniform and put it on my shoulder without violating uniform regulations.
Back pack purse is the most useful style for me at the moment!
Everyday purse is small with handles that are stiff. Easy grab & go.
I like a medium sized o0en bag with a few strategically placed pockets.
A lot of the bags look clever, but the camera bag looks very useful and well thought out. Thanks for the give away.
Wow! Love all the projects you featured in your blog, but especially like your art case. I personally love cross-body bags with lots of pockets to keep everything neatly organized and my hands free.
I love a compact bag that can carry cash, credit cards, and phone.
I love making bags I usually make a new bag when I travel from Australia to Europe . I think the grey across the body bag is great . I also love the art tote . Love your website and blog ,will look at you on Instagram
They all look so great! I’d probably get the most use out of the Mom’s Minivan Organizer. It looks so handy!
I love the padded bag insert and it’s something I’d definitely need and make to use as a camera bag.
I carry a large purse or tote bag.
Hi there Jennie ans Clara,
My most favorite bag is one that has lots of pockets, inside and out. I do have several zip pouches I use for carrying hand projects around, so I think that craft travel case would really fit the bill.
Thanks!
Quilty Huggs!
(CANADA)
Love the Travel Toiletry Organizer.
Love the Airport Sling
i haven’t seen all the projects in the book, but I really like the idea and looks of the snap and go case.
I love a nice size shoulder bag with lots of pockets for all the little things I tend to carry.
Duffles are the most useful for me…my husband and I often go away for just a day or two so need a bag to hold just a couple of changes and essentials.
I love all of the bags! The SUV organizer would be great to make! And I’d have to have the Snap and Go sewing or Art case for “projects to go”
I like the organizers. I use bags with lots of pockets and compartments to help keep me organized.
I love a big shoulder bag to carry my planner and laptop or tablet. Looks like a great book!
I always have to have a shoulder bag big enough to carry everything. I am always running errands and stuff. Love the sling and tablet bags.
Love these bags. Would like to try so many of them.
I use my messenger bag the most because it carries everything I need throughout the day. Thanks for the chance to win!
I love tote bags , especially with lots of pockets!
I love the padded camera bag insert for my daughter who is getting a new camera for her graduation!
Hi Jennie! I immediately fell in love with the bag on the cover of the book. I need that one Pronto! The other projects look fun as well, but my favorite is that one! Thanks for the chance!
A cross body bag, as I have a small frame and osteoporosis. So it keeps the weight just right on me bones:)
I love all purses ! I carry a crossbody for everyday use, but you always need something pretty for special occasions.
Lovely book on bags! I like the project bag and camara bag insert!
Padded Bag insert…definitely
I like medium size bags with a cross-body strap so I can wear it while wrangling my two young kids. I also like a zip top because my bags often find themselves tipped upside down or dropped down quickly, durable fabrics as my younger goes to preschool in the woods so my bags have to be able to stand up to being set down in the dirt, and I like lots of pockets for organization.
These bags are all awesome, but I thinkI like the cross body bag best.
Love backpacks. Carry lots of goodies!
What a great looking book! Thanks for the chance to win. I use a lot of tote bags in my every day life.
Love the caravan organizer!! Very clever!
I’m seriously drooling over the minivan organizer!!!
i prefer structured totes with divisions to keep magazines and ipad and kindle standing upright
Any Cross Body bag makes me happy because I like having both hands free.
I love all these organizer bags!!
How could I pick just one type of bag! I use bags for everything. Guess I am a bag lady! I love making bags for everything. Bags make it easier to carry things for my crazy kids!
That camera bag looks amazing! Congratulations on being published!
