Make It a Mini {Quilt Hanging Tip}

Great-Granny-Mini-Quilt

Use my mini quilt hanging tip to hang your mini quilt on the wall with dowels and corner hanging squares before binding.

I made my Great Granny Squared Sew Along Yarn and Crochet Hook block into a mini quilt, so I wanted to share it with you {sorry for posting about the same thing twice in a row…seriously, it takes me forever to finish projects!}. I layered it with a scrap of batting and Kona Melon solid and quilted it densely with wavy lines.

Single Fold Binding for Mini Quilts

Then I bound it using a single fold binding {my favorite for mini quilts!}.

Mini Quilt Hanging Tip

Hanging-the-Quilt

Since it seems that mini quilts are really popular right now, so I thought I’d show how I prepare mine for hanging. I use 3″ squares, folded on the diagonal and a tiny dowel.

Sew the Squares to the Back of the Quilt

Sew the squares to the two top corners of the mini, then trim the dowel to the right length and slip it in the little pockets. Then, just hang your quilt on a nail or thumbtack!

For quilts without the hanging pockets, thumbtacks work great, but I’m partial to the pockets because it’s easier to get the quilt level {without punching three holes in the wall…as I am in the habit of doing!}.  I’m also partial to hanging my mini quilts on a clothes line, as you can see in my Monterey sewing space and now here in New York! {Note: the postcard reads: “Step aside coffee This is a job for champagne” and is from Cat of Cat & Vee!}

Don’t you love mini quilts?  I’m so glad that the rest of the sewing world is catching on to what fun they are, it kind of makes me want to join a swap…!
