Great Granny Squared Sew Along
The winner is #32, Capi Cohen!
Hello and welcome to the second week of the Great Granny Sew Along! The Fat Quarter Shop is hosing a sampler sew along for Lori Holt’s book, Great Granny Squared, and making a sampler called Mama’s Crochet Quilt. Last week was the Filled Basket Block, and this week we’re making the Yarn and Crochet Hook.
All the cutting directions are in the Great Granny Squared book, then, there are additional PDFs available to make the sampler {so, you will need both a copy of the book and the PDFs to make this quilt}.
One of the fun things about the patterns from this book is that they use little pieces, so they’re great for scraps. I pulled all the yarn ball pieces from my scrap boxes! And, don’t forget to visit Kimberley, Lori, Debbie, and Kerri to see their blocks!
And, now for the part I’m sure you’re here for, giveaways! The Fat Quarter Shop has given me a copy of Great Granny Squared to give away to one of you! So, just leave a comment about a current sewing or crochet project. I’ll draw a winner Friday, May 2nd so that I can ship the book over the weekend.
But, that’s not all, submit a photo of your Yarn and Crochet Hook block to the Great Granny Squared Flikcr group and be entered to win the Stitchy Fun Sampler pattern! Three winners will be drawn by the Fat Quarter Shop. Happy sewing {and crocheting}.
Right now I am finishing a triangle quilt and a hexagon quilt as well, but I would love to begin a great granny quilt.
Thanks
I am starting a quilt for my daughter. I love granny square quilts and would love to win!
I love Lori Holt’s patterns! I am currently working on a quilt for the brother of a friend, and pink and grey for a friend recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and a hand pieced dear Jane quilt.
I love the weekly Sew Alongs and seeing all the beautiful blocks everyone makes. I’ve just finished 2 baby quilts that I hope to deliver this week.
I’m currently working on a baby quilt and a Christmas tree skirt (gifts for a baby shower and a wedding)!
I am currently making quilts for my nieces.
I’m working on sorting and cutting my scraps from a recent project into 5″, 2.5″ and 1.5″ squares and strips. So I’ll have lots of usable scraps if I should happen to win the book!
I have to finish binding two quilts today, one a QAL, one from a bee. Evenings when I don’t sit at my machine, I crochet coasters of all patterns. Btw, I have 8 or 10 great granny squares that I made last spring from Lori’s directions she had on her blog. I still haven’t made them into a quilt, but that looks like my next project…
unfortunately I have too many WIPs to list here ! 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway !
Thanks for giving all of us a chance to win Lori’s new book! I am putting thw binding on a quilt top that my daughter made me for Christmas. It was her first attempt and actually quite good. I am looking for summer projects and this would be perfect.
I am just about to finish a small project of an EPP pincushion. Thanks for a fun giveaway. x
Hi Jennie! Thank you “sew” much for hosting this week’s block for the Great Granny Sew Along.
I love that you used scraps for your blocks because that’s what I do too!
Your block turned out so cute and yes, I do thing the background fabric theme works out perfectly for it.
I used the same print in aqua to back my Mama’s Crochet quilt:)
I love the colors and prints you chose for the crochet balls and the background too! I am machine quilting a tee shirt quilt for my son and it’s taking forever!!!
I am currently working on an ongoing applique quilt that is taking FOREVER – so far 2 years. Love your blog.
One of these days I’m going to have to make a Granny Square quilt. As a crocheter I feel it is a must.
Just this morning I finished the binding on a flannel quilt for my husband’s 40th birthday. Yes!
Now it’s on to a quilt for a brother and his soon-to-be bride.
I am currently working on an applique quilt that is taking FOREVER. However, there is always time for one more project.
Right now I’m working on the Moda ABC’s again because Camille’s progress made me pull them out of the WIP pile again;-)
Loving your yarn & hook block Jennie!! … I am hoping to start this SAL later in the week, but my current sewing project would have to be my Swoon quilt in Ruby (with 6 down, and only 3 to go!) … I’ve also taken up a serious interest in crochet lately too, with me in the process of making my fourth doily from an old (1997) booklet I found in my mother’s craft draw 🙂 Really enjoying the process of learning new stitches and techniques in this, and I’m loving that I am gradually becoming more even and neat with the stitches!!
I have a large zig-zag afghan blanket that I started a few years ago and really want to make some progress on, but seeing as how I recently moved to a tropical climate, I’m finding it hard to want to crochet in this heat. I’ll finish is one of these days. Thanks!
What a great block!
I’m making a baby quilt at the moment for my niece!
Right now I’m in the middle of editing patterns for release but I so want to make this quilt!
Currently I’m making tons of applique pieces . Only 5 more to go and then I can start stitching.
Thank you for hosting a giveaway. I’m making a star quilt using English Paper Piecing technique, which I love. This method is so portable and is perfect for sitting on the couch. I also just started a floral cross stich pattern on linen from the book “Liberty Cross Stich”. The book is refreshingly different in that it has projects that combine Liberty Tana Lawn fabric with cross stitch. So pretty.
I would love to make a Granny Square quilt to go along with the many granny square afghans I have crocheted.
Love granny squares!! I am ready to quilt a sweet baby quilt (it is pieced and ready to machine quilt) for a little bun the the oven…a grand daughter due in May. I have already quilted a matching doll quilt for her as a surprise. DIL knows the baby quilt is being made, but the doll quilt for little Ava will be a surprise.
Hi Clara & Jennie! I am (embarrassed to admit I am) making the label and adding the binding “Garden Steps” which should have been finished nearly a year ago. I love your block, it is fun and cheerful. XOXO
I’m currently making a pleated bag (which I’m altering on the fly) with patchwork inserts and Hawaiian appliqué on the top panel. And my lovely daughter sent me a surprise gift of four fat quarters (she’s at uni, bless her) so I am looking for a worthy project to showcase them.
Always love a giveaway, but I’m in the UK so I don’t expect to win. Love to all, though xxx
right now i am working on a T-shirt quilt, but I would rather be working on something prettier, lol. Thanks
I am working on some cool super hero capes for my two sons 🙂
HI, I’m working on a baby charity quilt in aqua+white in mostly hst”s!
Thanks for a neat giveaway!
Right now I’m completing a flannel log cabin quilt for my husband. It turned out beautiful and he loves it!
Thank you for the giveaway! Lori’s books are wonderful!
Working on bibs for my grandmother’s stash. I have been having fun finding things in my stash of leftovers that go together well. Love your Lori Holt blocks! Thanks for the giveaway.
I’m working on the Churn Dash QAL that Bernina is hosting but I’m using batiks…hope it turns out pretty!
I am working on a small wall hanging and about to start a baby quilt for a great niece. Thanks for the chance to win this book.

I am making a 1930’s tumbler quilt for a new baby arriving into the family in July. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
What a fun block Jennie! I can’t knit, but love to crochet. Right now I’m doing a few dish clothes for gifts. Thanks for the chance! I would love to win the book and sew- along with y’all.
Just returned from a 4 day quilt retreat with my guild. I am in the process of finishing up 2 quilts for our quilt bingo, and one for our guild’s challenge. Additionally, I am participating in an on-line mug rug swap and the Granny Squared sew-along (my first)!

I am working on a trapunto appliqued baby quilt. Thanks for the chance.
I am working on some summer dresses for when I go on vacation in July. I can’t find anything that fits me well, so I am making my own. I am also working on a BOM of vintage blocks done with paper piecing.
I am working on a 2-3 year old UFO — an Alex Anderson autumn pattern. I’m determined to finish it by this Autumn! Thanks for the giveaway!

I am currently making a patchwork tablecloth and potholders. Thanks for the giveaway!
I am currently working on a baby shower monkey rag quilt for my 3rd grandchild. Thank you for the chance at this great giveaway!
I’m sure you know that I am just drooling over this book! I saw the pillow and I’m thinking it’s time to make my first pillow! I am currently working on a toddler quilt for Addi. She has outgrown her crib quilt. Sniff sniff.
Right now, I’m quilting some quilts that have been waiting to be quilted. It’s more fun to make the quilt, but they aren’t very cute or useful folded up on the shelf. I would love to have my next project be catching up on this fun sewing bee with the granny squares. It would make the hard work of quilting even more worthwhile.
I need to trim and bind a quilt I have just finished quilting. After that I’ll have to find something new to start!
As a newbie, I’m making a skirt for a friend! I have so many projects I want to try… Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
I would love to win this book. Such fun blocks.
I am actually participating in a granny square crochet along. Each month we get different directions to make the granny square look a little different than last months.
I am sewing aimlessly, I cannot commit to one project right now. Sew many projects…sew little time.
what a great block! I haven’t picked up my crochet hook in months, I’m not sure why, I should get back to it. I have just finished sewing some dining chair cushions so I’m kind of between projects at the minute, I’ve just started my very first mini quilt.
Such a cute block and pattern for a wall quilt! I’m working on finishing several quilts. Hope to finish my Birds in the Air 1930’s print quilt soon.
I really love this pattern!! Thanks for a sweet giveaway and would love a chance to win!! I am currently working on a ripple afghan and Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt! 😉 xo Heather
I’m trying to sew a crib set for my first born, it would be SUPER to enter (and to win maybe…) this book giveaway.
I’m currently working on two different projects. I’m making curtains for my childrens bedroom as the light nights are keeping them awake and I’ve just cut out the fabric to make the amelia top for my daughter (the same one Jennie made for Norah & Lydia as their easter dresses).
I am working on a Jo Morton Little Women quilt with cheddar and indigo fabrics. So sweet.
I have a quilt that needs the binding on it, one that needs quilted and one I am cutting out the pieces to. These are my current WIP. I am going to make a granny square quilt….keep looking at ideas. I would love to win the book. 🙂
its really cute, I dont even crochet, nor am I a fan, but I am of this book and the cute things that ya’ll make.
I’m currently working on some wool appliqué projects.
I have a granny square quilt started in reproduction fabrics, but it seems to be stalled.
Maybe winning a new book would revitalize me!!
Thanks for the chance.
I need to sew binding onto my quilt then it’s time to make some small gifts.
I love mini quilts! I’m binding two wall hangings to enter in my guild’s quilt show. Lori’s book is on my list and I’m dying to make a fun-sized granny squared quilt! Happy stitching
My current sewing project has been American girl doll clothing for my daughters. Im mostly using free patterns I find online.
I’m a new quilter but would love to try a”Great Granny Squared” pattern. So bring it on . . . .
