Log Cabin Blocks

Hello!

It is my month for the Sew Sweet Bee that  started up last month. Donna from Donna’s Lavender Nest is hosting this for us. I am excited  to swap blocks with such sweet ladies.

For my block, I am requesting a red and aqua log cabin block, since aqua and red are two of my favorite combinations. Also, I am loving the low volume or script fabrics so I thought that would be perfect for the light side.

I have an illustration and color chart that Jennie made up for me. The block finishes up at 12″ square.

Cutting:

Red:

(1) 3″ x 3″

Aqua                                     White or Low Volume

(1) 2″ x 3″                              —

(1) 2″ x 4 1/2″                      2″ x 4 1/2″

(1) 2″ x 6″                             2″ x 6″

(1) 2″ x 7 1/2″                       2″ x 7 1/2″

(1) 2″ x 9″                              2″ x 9″

(1) 2″ x 10 1/2″                     2″ x 10 1/2″

—                                            2″ x 12″

It is really simple and quick to make. When I made my block I used mostly scraps so I didn’t measure the strips before cutting to length until cut after sewing them on. It really is a personal preference.

Here is a sample block I made so you can see what I am looking for. I don’t mind color in the low volume or text or print, even solid white is fine. I am excited to see this come together. (I may have sewn more than one block for fun, the rest are still in process, you can see from the photo!)

  1. I’ve been collecting red and aqua fabrics for a quilt so I’ll have to remember where they are packed and pull them out! This will be my first log cabin block!

  2. Clara I love it. This is going to be so much fun. I love the word prints. You know I think I am going to have to start collecting more word prints? Hope you are having an awesome day.
