Baby Stella Onesie {Free Pattern Pieces}

Baby-Stella-Onesie

I got this great idea to make Baby Stella a onesie {and a Big Bow Headband too!}.  I had a swimsuit that I bought for her, and thought I could make a few modifications to make a new one.  Well, it turned out that it took all day yesterday, so what was the prototype is now the finished project because I don’t know if I’ll make another one any time soon!

Baby-Stella-Onesie-FrontBut, I am happy with the way it turned out.  I used some Fold Over Elastic to finish the top, arms, and legs.  By stretching the elastic while I sewed, it gathered up the arms and legs nicely, so it fit Baby Stella nicely.  I just used a zig zag stitch to finish most of the edges, because it is for a 2-year-old and I wanted it done fast {er, I thought it would be fast!}.

I had originally thought I’d make another one and write a tutorial, but since it took so long, I’m not sure I’ll make another.  However, I thought I’d share the pattern pieces with everyone in the meantime, you can download them here.

I am hoping to get a little more sewing done today, but I thought I’d share what I’ve been up to.  I think it’s funny that lately my idea of sewing for me is making doll clothes!  As our mounds of snow start melting, I’m hoping to make some clothes for me too, so any top/dress suggestion that would be easy to wear with a nursing baby would be much appreciated.  Hope you have been having a great week.

  1. Isn’t it odd these days that dolls of all kinds are everywhere but finding changes of outfits for them is nearly impossible? My daughters get really frustrated when we can’t find new clothes for their dolls, especially the smaller fashion size (11 1/2″) dolls. I try making my own, but frankly, sewing things that small just doesn’t work out so well for me. Thanks for sharing a pattern for doll clothes for those of us out here who are brave and patient enough to sew them, and serious kudos to those folks, too!

  2. Just wanted to say thank you for the free baby Stella onesie pattern. My almost five year old helped me lay out and cut the pattern pieces. I don’t have a sewing machine so I had to hand sew the whole thing, but it turned out great. The onesie itself (we call it a swimsuit) was quick and easy. The elastic trim was the real time-consuming part. I wasn’t able to hold the elastic tightly while hand sewing but with a minor adjustment around the legs, it fits great. This was my first time following a pattern and my first time making an outfit so thank you again for the inspiration and free pattern pieces!

    I would like to try a dress, big girl undies or something relatively simple if you decide to post more free pattern pieces for baby Stella. 🙂 also, if you want me to send a pic of the finished “swimsuit”, just let me know how I can send it to you. Thanks!
