the Mae messenger bag {coming soon}
Sometimes things don’t work out quite as planned. My mom and I designed and made this messenger bag months ago at the request of a quilting magazine, to show off Mary McGuire’s Grace fabric. We were given a short time frame and to create the bag, but the magazine was going to produce all the graphics, etc, so we didn’t worry about preparing a regular pattern. However, a while later, we learned the magazine had unfortunately gone out of business.
Instead of letting this pretty bag sit, we’ve decided to make it into a pattern too. Since it features the Grace fabric, we’ve also sent it along to Quilt Market with the Penelope purse, for RJR Fabrics to use in their booth {if they have room, we offered to send it very last minute!}. We’ll also be working on a pattern for this one soon, once things settle down a little bit.
I’ve been planning a messenger bag for a while. This one is large enough to fit my laptop {which is old and kind of large}, and also has two generously sized slip pockets on the inside, as well as a zipper pocket under the flap. It also has an adjustable strap, for crossbody or over the shoulder carry.
I hope you like the Mae messenger bag as much as we do, and hopefully the pattern will be available soon. Have a great week.
Great looking bag for sure! I will be on the lookout for the pattern, once it becomes available.
I absolutely love your bag! It’s most beautiful and simple enough! Pockets are always important. Lovely fabrics! x Teje
Very nice! I had an aunt named Mae. She was born in May. 🙂
Looks great! The zipper pocket under the flap is very clever and the flap itself provides a great space for creating some visual interest.
Another great bag! I like the clean lines of this design. I am hoping the pattern might offer it in a smaller size than laptop. I’ve been looking for an iPad size bag that’s not a purse.
I am also love, love, loving these fabrics! I am going to have this line for sure!
This is so pretty! I am glad to see you will be offering a pattern soon! XOXO
Oh how fun! I love the zipper under the pocket~ very sweet! Have a happy week!
So cute! Love the pink/aqua.
The pattern looks great… I love the colors !
Wonderful messenger……would love to have the pattern when ready!
It’s beautiful! Have a great week, too!
I love messenger bags! Can’t wait for your pattern to come out. Thanks for sharing your creative talents!
Hi Jennie,
Love the versatile design of the bag and the fabric sets it off i am wondering if there is enough room to carry the computer charger in the body of the bag.?
I always sem to need to carry either my computer or phone charger with me and i havent found a design that accommodates computer and gadgets together.
Thanks in advance!
Robyn
Hi Robyn, there should be plenty of room in this bag to carry the charger too! My laptop has a big, chunky charger that goes with it and it fit in the zipper pocket perfectly. I didn’t take a picture though, because it was hard to tell what I was trying to show (besides a lump!). Also, there is extra room in with the laptop, it is not a tight fitting sleeve. Hope that helps and hope to have a pattern soon!
Hi Jennie
Thank you for your reply! The pattern ticks all the boxes! I should have realised that you would have thought about the chargers! Lol. ☺️☺️
I will look out for the pattern!!
I have a feeling i might be making a couple for presents too!
Kind regards,
RobynAnn
Love it! I have a messenger bag that I bought from Dutch Sisters a couple of years ago. I love it and I always feel so proud carrying around a handmade item on my shoulder for the world to see. It is such a nice and practical design. Lovely work again. You are truly amazing at designing these bags.
