Mary McGuire’s Grace and a New Pattern {Coming Soon}

Grace by Mary McGuire

Mary McGuire has a new fabric line, Grace, that will be available in January. We are privileged to work with RJR Fabrics on designing a new purse that will be available as a kit with the Grace line.  Since we’re working with sample yardage, we decided to make up this little purse in some fabric we already had {this is Tula Pink’s Parisville} before cutting into the Grace yardage.  This is the prototype purse we came up with:

Prototype Purse 2

It is styled similarly to a commercial purse I had and loved, and I’ve been trying it out for the past couple of weeks, to decide what kind of tweaks and changes the pattern needs {just a few small ones this time}.  I know I’ve said this before, but I use almost every purse we design for at least a couple of months, it really helps us understand what we’re trying to provide when it comes to appearance and function {in case you’re wondering, I’m currently carrying the Louisa bag, it’s one of my favorites!}.

Now I just have to get brave and cut into the fabric. Hopefully it will go together quickly the second time. We will also be offering printed copies of this pattern {and maybe a few others}, so if you’re interested, please let us know so we can plan our order.

Do you make samples of things you’re working on, or do you just go for it with the fabric you intend?

  1. The fabric is so pretty! I love the simple bag style. I think I would like to make one!!! I am pretty much of a chicken when it comes to cutting into new fabric and I always wonder if I am going to come up with a more brillient idea after I have made the first cut…I keep telling myself, there will always be some new and pretty fabric to buy….so cut away! XOXO

  2. Wow! I love your prototype purse. The Tula Pink’s Parisville fabrics you have used for your sample are lovely but the purse made up using the sample yardage from the Grace line will look stunning. I can’t wait to see it.

    I normally would just make up my item with the fabric intended but I can definately see why you didn;t cut into the Grace fabric straight away. x

  3. Beautiful bag. I always make samples when designing a new quilt – which explains why I have so many tops laying around waiting to be quilted. I love that you use each bag for awhile to determine tweaks – great idea!
