Patchwork Sleeping Sack {All Finished}

I hope you don’t mind seeing the same thing again, but since my sleeping sack was a bit unfinished {and had some puckers!}, I had to finish it up and show a pretty version on the blog.ย  Find the original post with all the pattern details here.

Sleeping Sack

So, here’s the finished sleeping sack after I re-quilted the front {no more puckers} and hand stitched all the binding down. Let me tell you, hand stitching the binding to one layer of flannel without any batting and not stitching through to the front was really difficult.ย  Now I know why she stops the binding once the under side is covered.

Velcro Closure

I ended up using the velcro closure after all, I thought about a zipper and snaps, but I don’t own any plastic snap pliers {I think I need to invest in some, any recommendations?}, and the zipper wasn’t really working out either.

Velcro Closure 2So I stitched the velcro under the binding and then hand stitched it down on the other side for the patchwork piece. After I use this for newborn pictures, I may go back and machine sew it in place, if the hand stitching doesn’t seem to hold up through the wash. I then just machine sewed the velcro to the under side, as it won’t show anyway.

Even though I ended up spending a lot of hours on the finishing {probably more than on putting it together}, I think it was really worth it not to rush the details.

Do you often find that the finishing touches take twice as long as the project, or do you tend to look for short cuts to get done quicker?

  1. Hi Jennie!I love how this little sleep sack turned out. The patchwork is just so pretty! As to the snaps, back when I was making diaper covers for Miss C. I bought a snap setting tool from Snap Source (www.snapsource.com). It’s not a set of pliers, but it works well. xoxo

  2. Your sleep sack is lovely. I love the patchwork. It’s a great way of using fabric scraps. When my baby granddaughter sees her sleep sack, she knows it’s time for a nap. Thanks for sharing.

  3. OH MY GOSH this is SO beautiful!!!!!!! You make me want another baby just so I can make one!

    I got a pair of snap pliers at Joann’s for about $20 and you can use a coupon. Since I’m not using them for commercial stuff, and only use them occasionally, they seem to be fine for me. If you think you will want to use them a lot, you might want to invest in one that might be more durable. I’ve heard good things about Kam or KAM or something like that.

    By the way, sorry about my dingbat-baby-name moment on an earlier post. Stella is Norah’s doll, isn’t she? Sigh. Well, I will chalk it up to September brain and hope I didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I have the kamsnaps pliers and snaps. They are fairly inexpensive and are great if you aren’t doing a lot (doing it for 100’s of cloth diapers would require the press). They have a blogger program of sorts – you may be able to get them free. ๐Ÿ™‚
