Patchwork Baby Doll Quilt and {Mini} Diaper Bag
Getting ready for a new baby now includes making special things for big brother and big sister! Jennie has some special things planned for them after baby sister is born, so I thought I would love to be involved and make a few things too!
Along with the little diaper bag, (the Bella clutch, our free pattern with just a few modifications), I am in the process of making a baby doll quilt, it is made from The Sweetest Thing by Zoe Pearn for Riley Blake! Love this line!! Every print is adorable and every color is perfect for little girls. Her blog is so cute and full of lots of beautiful creations of hers!
The doll quilt is a little more than half way complete. I will add about 5 or 6 more rows of 3″ squares then quilt and bind. I think it is going to be perfect for Norah to be a little mommy. I know she will love them.
Silas is next after completing these fun things for Norah. I still haven’t decided what to make him but I would love any ideas you may have. He is 3 and loves everything trains these days. When they were visiting last, his Opa (Grandpa) took him on a short train ride on the VRE (Virginia Railway Express) and that started his love of trains. He is so cute and is now obsessed with trains, it has also spread to Norah who has her own little Emily train too!! Maybe something with trains would be appropriate for him!?
I can’t wait to begin the new baby quilt that I will be making soon. I already have the fabric and I think I have the pattern narrowed down also.
We are enjoying a little bit cooler weather here, such a relief after a long hot July! Nice for walks and enjoying being outside more!
Enjoy your day!!
Very sweet project Clara! 🙂 How about a ‘busy bag’ for Silas with a train applique on it, and a coloring book or story book with trains? Or a little mat in train fabric that he can play with his train pieces on~?
So sweet.

Oh Clara, these are darling! I know Norah is going to love, use and treasure these things made just for her! Wow – Silas & Trains! Perhaps a new library book bag with train fabric and an applique train pillow….I have one other idea, but it does not involve sewing. About fifty years ago my Dad made Carter a train he could ride on, it was made of a big metal tube, plywood with casters so it could roll, I remember for the smoke stack Dad used a tomato soup can, he painted the whole thing black. We both played with that for years and years….I don’t know if Dad still has the plans, but I bet he would love to tell you and Stan how to make one. Love you, XOXO
What about an engineers hat and kerchief? The mini diaper bag and quilt are precious! Thank you so much for sharing.
Such sweet makes for Nora! Love the ideas your other commenters have given too!
just adorable!
Adorable little bag and quilt! Our Silas loves trains, too. And dinosaurs!
Really pretty, and such a lovely idea 🙂
Linda, over at Flourishing Palms has posted about an train engineer’s cap today. Maybe she can point you into the direction of the pattern she used!
So sweet; I know you will just be so excited when the new baby arrives! I love preparing for babies, too.
Very cute! I just unpacked a box of toys for my grandchildren to play with, and I found a little diaper bag I had made 25+ years ago for my daughter. My sweet 2-year-old Zoey was thrilled to play mommy! Norah will have such fun. Perhaps for Silas you could make him a play mat with train tracks on it. I made my grandson one for cars and he folds it up (into an attached pocket with handles) and takes it everywhere.
such a sweet bag and doll quilt! i love the colors and prints in this line. I love how you modified the Bella clutch to turn it into a bag. maybe Silas could use a drawstring bag or tote to carry his trains and a mat to drive them on for travel (or a conductor’s hat) Happy sewing!!
Clara, that is the cutest thing! My Blossom designed a sweet dolly quilt and bag a few years ago…I’m waiting for her to marry and have a little girl to play with it. 😉

What a darling diaper bag and baby quilt!
How cute! I absolutely love your fabric selections.
Such an adorable idea, I love the pretty fabrics! Maybe you could make a carry bag for Silas with an appliqué train on it…..and he could use it to carry his favourite toys in.
