This post is part of the A Season by Hand series. Find the schedule here.
Full details on sponsors and prizes here.
—–Our next guest is Shanna from Fiber of All Sorts.Β Shanna is one of the hosts of A Lovely Year of Finishes {Melissa is the other, you can see her post here}, which is great to help us finish our works in progress {because we all have them hiding somewhere}.Β Shanna also has some quilt block tutorials.Β And, I just enjoy her fun, fresh personality in everything she makes and writes!

Eeep! Thanks to Jennie and Clara for including me in this fantastic series.Β Seriously there are enough ideas to last me for years in this series!
As a short intro, I’m ShannaΒ {like Banana not bawana} and I blog over at Fiber of All Sorts. Do come see me anytime.
I’m one of the co-hosts of A Lovely Year of Finishes, an accountability linky {with prizes} that encourages me, and others,Β to finish one project a month! It’s amazing the amount of finishes I’veΒ completed this year – sometimes not the ones I initially choose as my monthly goal.
I currently have a day job that keeps me on the road.Β Really more than I ever expect.
What has caught my attentionΒ for long enoughΒ has been some hexi’s.Β Enough to make this beauty is from a tutorial from the lovely Noodlehead.Β Oh and some lovely Daisy Janie fabric.
What do I have in there?Β Neglected embroidery (from the Embroidery 101 Stitch Along in 2011) and at the bottom, out of the photo, more hexi templates.
Sometimes I drag alongΒ a bag of knitting that has taken the back seat to my fabric loves.Β This project is for a baby born last November – lalalala.
One more skein and it will be done!

When I’m on the road I wish that I could say that I take embroidery or loads of English Paper Piecing. Instead I take magazines or books.
Just this year I’ve become re-antiquated with my local library that I can rent books on CD.Β I’m reading again! Yes, its more listening, but I’ve devoured 6 books just this last month.
It dawned on me that I could also borrow quilting books!Β Yippee! I have ohhh 30 books out at anytime and I’m happy to say that more than half of them are quilting, knitting, crafting related.Β I usually grab and dash out the door with a handful of these to add to my journal of ‘want to make’ pages. Here is just a sample of some of the books I’m currently renting or the books I grab from my own bookshelves.
Do go and check out your library to see if you can test out some of the fantastic books out there and make a long list of the ones you’ll have to buy. My only word of wisdom is toΒ keep up with your checkout dates, there are fines if you keep them too long.
BooksΒ and lovely blogs. . I’m sure I’ll never be at a loss for projects.
Enjoy the summer . . and make sure to grab something crafty even if it’s just forΒ inspiration later.
Thankfully my library sends me an email to remind me when my books are due to be returned! Then I just need to remember to GO to the library!
I love your books collection:) there are lots of inspirations but so little time…
My local library is a bit of a disappointment there. There are some lovely 1980s craft books, though. π When I am always on the go for sports seasons or appointments I take crochet, embroidery, or books along.
I still can’t figure out how to pronounce our name! I probably should check out my library, I have the most shameful craft book collection, but it’s only open on a Saturday morning (outside of working hours) and I like my Saturday lie ins too much! I can’t believe they let you borrow 30 books in one go!
I’ve never thought of my library as a source for quilting inspiration – thanks for the light bulb moment! π
I just started taking out crafting books as well. I take out knitting, crochet, quilting, sewing, embroidery, etc. I only take 2 out at a time though…I’d end up having late charges if I tool more out lol
I love to check out quilting books at my library, I walk in and they are quick to tell me when they have a new one in stock!
I think I have already borrowed all the craft and sewing books from my library….they don’t have much of a selection. Most of the books are older but they have some wonderful ideas and patterns.
Shanna’s hand sewing bag is cute! I love that her knitting is in a regular paper bag – I do that, too! π
I love heading off to the library. -so much inspiration on those shelves! Your projects are very sweet.
I wish our library had a better selection. I have won some really neat books. I love all the hand projects.
Never thought to look for craft/sewing books at the library! I’ve hit up Half-Price Books plenty though. π
our public libraries don’t have the greatest quilt books but I will check books out from out guild library.
I have checked out a few quilting books at the library though “my” books stack pretty high and I love re-reading. I sometimes think a book fairy has added a page or two while I wasn’t looking because I always find something that seems brand new to me!!
Love all your creations π
Love the cute little hexie bag. I have absolutely enjoyed this series of great ideas.
