a season by handOur guest today is Carrie from A Passion for Applique.  Even though Carrie is not sharing about applique today, if you’re interested in learning she has some great tutorials on her blog, such as Needleturn Applique valleys and deep V, and Freezer Paper Points.  She is certainly a great resource for applique techniques and eye candy!  I hope you enjoy what she has to share with us today!

Thanks Jennie for inviting me to be a part of your summer series: A Season by Hand. I am Carrie P. from A Passion for Applique. I bet you thought that I would show you hand applique because that is the name of my blog but I thought I would share something quite different for me. Hand Piecing! Have you thought about trying your hand at hand piecing? I really had fun making this little wall hanging.IMG_7914

One fourth of one block measures 3 inches so it is perfect block to hand piece instead of trying to sew those tiny pieces with your sewing machine. IMG_7909You sure don’t have to carry a lot of  supplies if you decide to try hand piecing! I have this tin with all my pieces cut and ready to take with me whenever I am ready to travel or know I will be waiting somewhere for a while. I think I will have this tin filled up with more blocks ready to sew by hand because I have another new passion-hand piecing! Maybe you will too.IMG_7911This pattern is designed by Cindy Blackburg.  If you are interested in trying hand piecing, here is a great blog with lots of tips.

  4. I’ve not hand-pieced anything but EPP hexies so far, but it definitely sounds easier than using a machine for little tiny pieces like that!

  5. I have several completely hand pieced quilts from a great aunt. They are amazing, but daunting. Wall-hanging size looks like a great take along project though!

  6. Hi I’m Katie and I blog at There & Back .I mostly blog about quilting, with a good amount of hand work in there. I love needleturn applique, hand piecing, hand quilting and embroidery.
