Thanks Jennie for inviting me to be a part of your summer series: A Season by Hand. I am Carrie P. from A Passion for Applique. I bet you thought that I would show you hand applique because that is the name of my blog but I thought I would share something quite different for me. Hand Piecing! Have you thought about trying your hand at hand piecing? I really had fun making this little wall hanging.
One fourth of one block measures 3 inches so it is perfect block to hand piece instead of trying to sew those tiny pieces with your sewing machine. You sure don’t have to carry a lot of supplies if you decide to try hand piecing! I have this tin with all my pieces cut and ready to take with me whenever I am ready to travel or know I will be waiting somewhere for a while. I think I will have this tin filled up with more blocks ready to sew by hand because I have another new passion-hand piecing! Maybe you will too.
This pattern is designed by Cindy Blackburg. If you are interested in trying hand piecing, here is a great blog with lots of tips.
Your work is so pretty as always!! Thank you for sharing!!
I love to hand piece and agree with you, about the machine. Tiny pieces move to much for me. You work is stunning, thank you for sharing your talent. I just love the middle embroidery.
Such a lovely wall hanging. The colors are lovely.
What a fun pattern! And you’re right, when you need to piece small pieces, doing it by hand is easier than using the machine. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely blocks!
Thanks for sharing!:)
Gorgeous wall hanging!
What a beautiful wall hanging! Thanks so much for sharing!
Beautiful wall hanging Carrie! I have not tried hand piecing yet – but now maybe I will!
i have such admiration for people who hand piece, I can’t imagine doing it myself, I’m far too impatient!
WOW! I have never tried hand piecing but that looks great!
Gorgeous wall hanging Carrie!! I have not tried any hand piecing yet but I enjoy other hand work like EPP and embroidery. My mother sews by hand and I admire her beautiful work. I am definitely going to try it now. Thank you!
I’ve never tried hand piecing though I am intrigued by it 🙂
I’m so impressed by your hand-sewn blocks!
I am hand piecing my first block other than hexagons. Headed over to check out her hand stitching tips.
I’ve not hand-pieced anything but EPP hexies so far, but it definitely sounds easier than using a machine for little tiny pieces like that!
I love the embroidery at the centre …it looks so neat and beautiful!
You make me want to start hand piecing again- Beautiful.
I have several completely hand pieced quilts from a great aunt. They are amazing, but daunting. Wall-hanging size looks like a great take along project though!
So tiny…what a perfect project for hand sewing. Marvelous quilt.
Hi I’m Katie and I blog at There & Back .I mostly blog about quilting, with a good amount of hand work in there. I love needleturn applique, hand piecing, hand quilting and embroidery. I also throw in the occasional work related post, I’m a pastry chef, so you just might find me working on something yummy. I’m glad to be here sharing today as part of the Season by Hand Series.
