Welcome to the second week of our Season by Hand! We have some beautiful inspiration this week of things that can be made by hand while away from your sewing machine. We’re starting out with Suz of PatchworknPlay. Suz has a lovely blog and I especially love looking at her use of color. She often uses a lot of the fabrics I love, but pairs them in unique ways that inspire me to step out of my comfort zone a little bit, as they’re always so beautiful. Suz is actually Australian, and was part of my reasoning for calling this series “A Season by Hand”, because it is winter in the southern hemisphere. However, since winter is a great time for hand sewing too, hopefully all our friends around the world can join us this season.

Hi, I’m Suz, from PatchworknPlay
Thank you for stopping by on my day of
“Season By Hand”,
to see what I like to have on hand
for some Summer sewing….
(Any time of the year, for that matter
as it’s Winter ‘down under’!)
I love felt….
I made this bunny as a special Easter gift.
There’s so much inspiration out there,
whether it’s on Pinterest, where I have a
Or in books –
I borrowed these from my local Library!
Felt is so portable, not expensive, and very versatile!
I had a hard time deciding what to share with you…
So I made these three items especially for today!
Baby Shoes….
(looking for a new home!)
These are from a pattern at Purlbee, where you will find even more inspiration!
A Brooch…
This has a pin fastener on the back
Or A Bracelet….
This is my own design, made with some Liberty fabric yo-yos…
also made by hand!
The possibilities are endless….
You really only need some felt, thread (Perle or embroidery stranded cotton) and a needle!
And its not a huge time commitment for almost instant return!
This is my hand sewing travel kit,
Perfect for Summer, Winter, anytime!
Please give felt a try,
I’m sure you will have fun with it!
I’d love to see some felt creations linked up too!
Happy Sewing!
SUZ

Such lovely projects. I have never really thought of using felt – you have opened up a whole new world for me 🙂
All of the projects you made to share with us are awesome! You make felt look sophisticated and beautiful, thanks for the inspiration!
I made my first felt creations this past Christmas – Dala Horse Christmas tree ornaments – and I loved it. I’ll have to start using felt more often 🙂
Cute and colourful. I especially like the sewing travel kit. Thank you for showing us!
I love all of those projects, but especially the baby booties. So cute!
I love working with felt and wool. thanks for sharing your cute creations.
What a great idea, Suz. I love the feel of felt, and when I’m making things I love not having to worry about turning under the edge/preventing fraying. And the colours are so lovely and saturated.
Oh, what a fun idea! I have not worked with felt in a long time. Thank you for reminding us how fun it can be! Love your work. I am off to the library!
Aw, I love the little bunny! I don’t think I have sewn with felt since I was really young. I have an idea of a few things I want to try making with felt though, some brightly coloured hanging decorations with some beading detail to start with 🙂
That is a sweet little bunny! I’ve been using more felt lately, and it’s so much fun! 🙂
I love working with felt and make my grandkids their Christmas stocking using it.. Love those baby shoes – so sweet.
i first used felt in pillows and they were such a fun project!
lovely projects thanks
Oh my, the bunny and the brooch are sooo cute! I’ve never tried felt before because I have no idea how to transfer the pattern on it hahaha:p
Lovely creations. Adore that little bunny, so cute. The bracelets are quite nice, they look easy to assemble and very nice for gifts.
I love the bunny & egg. I need to dig my felt project out of the “to-do” pile. It’s a gingerbread man candle mat. Maybe I could get it done by Christmas. (Let’s all pretend I haven’t said that every year for the past four or five years.)
Love the felt bracelet. It’s great. thanks for sharing.
I have all kinds of felt and don’t know what to do with it!! Your stuff is beautiful!!
Love your little travel sewing bag.

I like working with felt – it’s colorful, doesn’t ravel, and it very forgiving! I love the yo-yo bracelet – very clever.. Thanks for the inspiration!
Those shoes are sooo cute.
Thanks everyone for your lovely and encouraging comments! This was such a fun experience!
I made some great Christmas ornaments with felt – old-fashioned skating girls. Felt is wonderful to work with and I love, love, love those little shoes.
Those shoes! Also, I really like that bracelet and kinda want one exactly like it, and I’m don’t even wear bracelets. 🙂
Fantastic projects! Thank you for inspiration to make more with felt!
I was just saying to my other grandma friends that I need some little felt sewing projects that all of our little grandbabies will be able to hold. that little bunny is perfect. And of course, baby shoes, I just love them.
I love felt, too. At least half my Christmas ornaments are felt, though not all my creations. Love your bunny!
Thank you for sharing your felt ideas…I love the bright colors you used.
you make such beautiful things, I’m in love with that bunny!
That bunny is adorable! he would be an absolute hit with my 3 year old!
Well, I am a bit embarrassed….I am so behind, I did not see this post until today. What a great collection of felt makes. Of course, I recognize the precious bunny! Don’t you love working with felt? The colors are so intense and no finishing the edges…it almost feels like cheating. Your happy stitched ‘ Susan’ pouch is so cute, just like everything you do.
