Hey y’all today you are stuck with me…Rhonda of Quilter in The Gap. I say stuck with because I am amazed I get to post on this amazing blog with all these talented guest bloggers. I am not sure how that happened….I am sure it is a mistake and at any moment Clara & Jennie will realize it is a mistake and ask me to step aside.

You want to know what makes me think that? Well, for starters I actually don’t really care for hand stitching. I abhor putting the binding on a quilt. The most embroidery I have ever done is when I completed the Embroidery 101 Quilt for my Granddaughter (free tutorial here ย – designed by Jennie BTW). Oh and I have NEVER completed a cross stitch project so when I won the Frosted Pumpkin Summer Sampler during this very event I was both ecstatic and nervous. So, YEP! I am convinced my being here is a MAJOR MISTAKE!!!!

However, I am going to keep typing just in case.

Because I am not one to sit idle I do have a little hand stitching bag I made for trips. Now if I am being honest I am usually finishing up a gift when we are on the way to see my granddaughter (generally binding, buttons, etc) but every now and then I have a few hours of free time in the car. That is when I reach for this…

Inside this bag is everything I need to play with hexies – not something I generally enjoy but it keeps me from sitting idle in the car. I decided to empty my bag so you can see what’s inside. Are you ready for this?

I learned to do paper piecing from a dear friend, who taught me to glue the fabric to the paper and not stitch until I am ready to stitch them together. That pink/red pen-looking thing is my SewLine glue pen – I love that thing! It will hold it to the paper and releases super easy! Check this out…

glued hexies
This has been glued for about 3 months and still came apart cleanly.

I use no rhyme or reason when stitching the hexies together (oh and I have no idea what I will do with that blob either!!).

When it came time to make something for this post I decided to use a tutorial of Jennie’s because I really needed some bibs to keep around the house. A few weeks ago I had a ton of kids here and someone asked if I had any bibs. Well, now I do thanks to a great tutorial from Jennie!

I used a few hexies from my bag of tricks above and presto bango all look what I ended up with…

I guess hand gluing stitching can pay off! Well, it appears I have slipped through the cracks. I better sign off before they realize I am here! Have a great day y’all!

  1. I love EPP and hexagons! Haven’t tried the glue method yet but I bet it saves a lot of time……gotta get a Sewline glue pen. I love the bibs!

  2. These are brilliant! Gorgeous projects. I am not good sewing on the road as I prefer the driving but could be lovely having you next to me ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Fun! Looks like you don’t need to love hand sewing to do hand sewing. Hexies seem to be a great take-along project; I need to gather my ‘stuff’ together!

  4. Rhonda great post. Your bibs look wonderful and would have never known…..that hand piecing was never your thing…..
