Scrappy Trip Around The World {Quilt Finish}

My first quilt finish of the year is my Scrappy Trip Around the World quilt!

Scrappy Trip Quilt

I actually cut into my precious stash for this one {it was hard at first, but I’m so glad I did} so that I could use all my favorite fabrics for a pretty toddler bed sized quilt for Norah.  I hadn’t originally planned on adding the purple, but I’m so glad I did!

Scrappy Trip Top

The quilt is 3 x 4 quilt blocks with a 1 1/4″ border of Kona Flesh and then another row of squares. I wanted it to be a little larger without going to the next number of blocks, since it will be for the toddler bed.

Scrappy Trip Back

I used fabric from The Simple Life by Tasha Noel for Riley Blake for the back, I thought it was the perfect use for a cute fabric that I didn’t want to cut up for patchwork. I quilted it with a super pretty pink variegated Aurifil 40wt thread. I think I may use 40wt thread for all my quilting now, I love the way it stands out a little more than the 50wt!

Scrappy Trip Up Close

I quilted it with double loops, as I wanted to try something a little different than a regular meander, and I think this will also be appearing in a lot of my quilts!  This my be my favorite quilt so far, I’m really pleased with it and cannot wait to get it washed and crinkly!

I’m so glad to finish one of my goals so far!  Now, off to the fabric store for a couple supplies so I can start on the next one.  Do you have a favorite quilt, or do you find your favorite is your current finish?

  1. Oh, it is just fantabulous!!! You have given this quilt just the perfect amount of scrappiness mixed with a plan. I love the way you’ve used the colors to continue around a row, and the selection of fabrics is just right. The back…sigh…just as pretty as the front. Charming!

  5. It’s beautiful, Jennie! Norah is very lucky! I’m currently working on a hexie quilt with some of my favorite stash that I’ve been saving for just the right project. It’s so hard to cut into that favorite fabric sometimes, but I’m really glad I did, too 🙂

  6. That is so so adorable. I love the fabric. Gosh I want to make a trip around the world quilt too… but I seem stuck for the moment. My sewing machine is getting dusty… I am not sure what it is. I just can’t find the mojo… Think I am in a big crochet period… Well, the mojo will come back when I least expect it I guess. Love love love this and think it is gorgeous for a toddler quilt like this. The perfect size.
