Photo Props
One thing I know most everyone loves about looking at blogs are all the beautiful pictures! I live in a quirky little house, and have some fun furniture that helps with some of my photographs, but, I have also found that those backgrounds aren’t right for every shot, and sometimes the light isn’t right for my backgrounds. But, aside from building a light box {which I don’t have room for}, what is a girl to do? Make some portable props, of course!
I gathered some foam presentation boards from the local craft store, some linen-y fabric, and my last piece of Moda Cross Weave in Neutral {which is discontinued…but if anyone knows where I can get more, I’d be thrilled! I was wrong, it will be available next week at Sew Lux, thanks Chrissy!}. Then I taped them over my boards with painter’s tape {I wanted something somewhat removable}:

Now anywhere is perfect for a photo shoot of something small, here’s the shot I took of fabric the other day, no need to try and clear out the whole house just to get some good light:
I’m thinking I may pick up a few more interesting and non-busy fabrics to make a few more backdrops too, for more variety, since these are quite plain.

That is such a good idea..I think that is what I need too…I have a few places around the house I always use and it gets a bit boring too…or the light is wrong!
My husband painted a huge piece of wall board white for a backdrop. Good thing is I can repaint when necessary or just drape fabric over it for a totally “new” backdrop.
Great idea! I use white boards behind projects sometimes on a dull day…nice and quick and makes for brighter pictures, and as you say you don’t have to tidy up all the things in the background of the shot!

Oh, that’s clever. I’ll have to try something like that, because I’ve encountered some similar situations when I’m trying to photograph things. I’d love to see a shot of that fabric stack from the front with the foam-core presentation board in the back. I’d like to see that to see what a difference homemade photo props make…but either way, I’m sure it’s great. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

what a great idea. I have got to figure something out for my house since the lighting is really low in there and I don’t have many great surfaces to take pictures on.
This is a great idea and I am going to implement it this week. Most of my photos are ruined by the background and I search around the house for a good, neutral spot in vain. We have too much stuff! thank you.
